States of Cooking — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Zebra Finch Games LLC ("Zebra Finch Games," "we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the States of Cooking iOS app (the "App"). It supplements, and does not replace, the site-wide Privacy Policy covering zebrafinchgames.com.

Summary

States of Cooking is a game for children. It has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertisements, no chat, and no way to type or share anything. All game progress stays on the device. The App works fully offline; the only information that ever leaves the device is anonymous usage statistics and crash reports, described below.

Information we collect

Game progress — stays on the device

Which states have been learned, which dishes have been cooked, and the rest of the trip's progress are stored only on the device. This information is never uploaded anywhere. Deleting the App deletes it.

Usage data

We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous gameplay statistics — for example, which state lessons are started and completed, which quiz questions are answered correctly, and which cooking steps give players trouble — so we can find the places where the game confuses kids and fix them. These events describe game state only. The App contains no free-text input, so nothing a child types or says is ever collected. The analytics service generates a random identifier for the installation; we use the version of the SDK that operates without advertising identifiers — no IDFA, no IDFV — and analytics data is never used for advertising. When events reach Google's servers, an approximate country-level region is derived from the IP address; the App never uses location services and never collects precise location.

Diagnostic data

We use Google Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports when the App stops unexpectedly. Reports include technical information such as the operating system version, device model, app version, and the stack trace at the time of the crash. They contain no personal information.

Purchases

States of Cooking is free to download, with the first state free to play. It offers a single optional one-time purchase that unlocks the rest of the country. It is not a subscription — there is no recurring charge and nothing to cancel. The purchase screen sits behind a parent gate, and the purchase itself is made through Apple's App Store using the Apple Account on the device, subject to Apple's purchase controls (including Ask to Buy, which lets a parent or guardian approve every purchase). Apple — not Zebra Finch Games — processes the payment. We never see or receive names, Apple Account emails, or payment-card details. The record of the unlock lives with Apple and on the device. So we can tell whether the purchase flow is working, the App reports anonymous purchase events (for example, that the one-time purchase was completed or restored) to the analytics service described above, and Apple sends us its standard server-to-server notification when a purchase, code redemption, or refund occurs. Neither contains any personal information — no names, no emails, and no payment details.

Information we do not collect

Children's privacy

States of Cooking is made for children and is offered in the Kids category of the App Store. We take that seriously: the App collects no personal information from anyone, including children. There are no advertisements, no social features, no user-generated content, and no external links or purchase screens outside the parent gate. The anonymous gameplay statistics described above are configured without advertising identifiers and are used only to improve the game. If you are a parent or guardian and have any question about your child's privacy in the App — or believe we have somehow received personal information about a child — please contact us and we will address it promptly.

Service providers

We use Google Analytics for Firebase and Google Firebase Crashlytics, operated by Google LLC, for the anonymous usage and diagnostic data described above. Data handled by these services is processed in accordance with Google's privacy and security commitments. The App uses no other third-party services.

To offer the one-time purchase, the App includes Apple's in-app purchase functionality through the StoreKit framework. Apple Inc. acts as the payment processor. Apple's handling of your information is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Data retention

Game progress lives on the device and is deleted when the App is deleted. Anonymous analytics events and crash reports are retained according to Google Firebase's default retention windows for those services. Support correspondence is retained for as long as needed to address the issue and for a reasonable period thereafter.

Your rights

All personal control is local: deleting the App removes all game data from the device, and the App's settings include a full reset. If you would like us to delete the anonymous analytics data associated with an installation, email contact@zebrafinchgames.com and we will handle it. To request a refund of the one-time purchase, visit reportaproblem.apple.com; refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under applicable data-protection law to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you. Because the App collects no personal information, in most cases there will be nothing to produce — but we will respond to every request within a reasonable timeframe.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced in the App or on this Site.
