Frequently asked questions

How does the game work?

You drive across America, region by region. Each state teaches three things — where it is, its capital, and its postal letters — then asks three questions. Win the state and you cook its signature dish in the kitchen, and the dish lands in your cookbook.

What is the year pad that keeps appearing?

That's the parent gate. Anything that leaves the app — links, email, and the purchase screen — sits behind a quick "what year were you born?" check so that young kids can't wander out of the game on their own. It's a standard pattern in kids' apps, not a lock on the game itself.

Are there in-app purchases or ads?

There are no advertisements, no subscriptions, and no accounts. The first state is free to play; a single optional one-time purchase, behind the parent gate, unlocks the rest of the country. If you reinstall or switch devices, use Restore Purchases in the grown-ups panel in Settings to restore the unlock at no additional cost.

How do I turn the sound off?

Settings → Sound. One switch covers every ding and sizzle in the game.

How do I reset progress?

Settings → Start the trip over. It asks twice, because there is no undo. Deleting the App from the device does the same thing — all progress lives on the device.

What about my child's data?

See the States of Cooking Privacy Policy for the full picture. The short version: no accounts, no ads, no tracking, nothing to type — progress stays on the device, and the only thing that ever leaves it is anonymous gameplay statistics and crash reports.
